Lupini beans, also known as lupin beans, are yellow legumes traditionally eaten across the Mediterranean and parts of South America. They have been enjoyed for thousands of years — archaeologists even discovered lupini beans in an Egyptian tomb from the 22nd century BC. These versatile beans are naturally gluten‑free, packed with nutrients and boast a pleasantly nutty flavor.

Whole lupin seeds contain about 30–40 % protein by weight, while lupin flour made from ground sweet lupin beans provides around 40 % protein and 37 g of dietary fibre per 100 g. Purified lupin protein isolates produced by alkaline extraction have protein concentrations ranging from about 70 % up to over 90 %.
